The UNM Teacher Education Department supports teachers at all stages of their careers to become qualified, competent and caring professionals in the diverse classrooms of New Mexico. Some Teacher Education Programs are offered at the UNM-Gallup Branch Campus, and the UNM-Farmington Center as well as at the UNM-Albuquerque Campus.
Aspiring Teachers may seek initial teacher licensure in our Elementary or Secondary Education. In addition to baccalaureate degrees with standard licensure, we also offer graduate students alternative or standard licensure within the M.A. with Licensure Program.
Teacher Practitioners who desire to refine or expand their practice in a structured academic program may enroll in the M.A. in Elementary or Secondary Education Program for Licensed Teachers. Our graduate programs of studies will help practicing teachers acquire or expand the knowledge, skills and leadership capacities needed for advancement within the NM Three-Tiered Teacher Licensure System.
Post Master’s Program Candidates may pursue advanced studies through the Educational Specialist Certificate in Curriculum and Instruction, or the Ph.D or the Ed.D. in Multicultural Teacher and Childhood Education, in order to expand their professional skills to include teacher education and professional development as well as K-12 instruction.
