Research & Scholarly Interests
My research has focused on teacher development and evaluation, P-20 educational reform, culturally responsive education, and secondary education.
Special Projects & Grants
I have served as Director of the Institute for Professional Development since 2003.
In that position, I have served as Principal Investigator for over $2,500,000 in grant awards from the New Mexico Public Education Department and the Office of Educational Accountability.
Professional Goals
I will be an engaged participant in the work of the Teacher Education Department that is evolving and improving over time to fully support teacher development across the career continuum, from recruitment to preparation to induction to advanced professional development, for the benefit of all students in New Mexico.
As a member of the Teacher Education Department, I will:
- Advocate for social justice through culturally responsive curriculum and instruction in K-20 educational settings;
- Support development of fundamental professional understandings, practices and identities for effective teachers and teacher educators through my teaching, scholarship and service;
- Engage in organizational, political and community environments that support systemic reform for educator quality and student learning;
- "Walk the Talk," by modeling best practices for diverse adult learners in the courses I teach and professional development experiences I facilitate.
