Program of Study for Graduate Students

About the Program

The M.A. in Elementary Education program strives to prepare the very best entry level teachers for all of New Mexico's children; such preparation is enriched by the diverse, contrastive linguistic and cultural communities of the region. The program also takes advantage of the many professional partnerships that the College holds with school districts and their teaching faculties.

Elementary Education is a program that offers two graduate degree studies.
  • The M.A. in Elementary Education is for those who hold an elementary teaching license.
  • The M.A. in Elementary Education with alternative K-8 licensure is for those who wish to obtain teaching license and a master's degree.

The M.A. in Elementary Education with alternative K-8 licensure is for an individual interested in obtaining a K-8 elementary teaching license and completing a Master's degree in Elementary Education. A student in this program is one who has a Bachelor's, Master's or Doctoral Degree and who is interested in obtaining a K-8 Elementary teaching license. This is a two-stage program leading to Licensure and a Master's Degree in Elementary Education. Students complete licensure courses, advanced field experiences through student teaching, and then begin Master's Degree courses.
