Overview

Are you interested in a career in teaching in K–12 schools? You've come to the right place. The Teacher Education Department offers programs that prepare professional educators for elementary, middle, and high school positions. Our academic programs help aspiring teachers learn instructional techniques, strategies, and assessments that are appropriate for all students in each of the content areas taught in elementary school classrooms or in the content area of your choice in secondary school classrooms.

As a student in our programs, you will learn how to apply what you are learning in your methods courses under the supervision of a veteran teacher in sustained, intensive field experiences. Our programs include:

  • Content-specific methods courses for the academic content areas you will teach at your chosen grade level
  • A special ed course designed to support instruction in your content and grade level in the least restrictive environment
  • Grade level-specific reading courses
  • Courses that prepare you to work with diverse students in regular education programs in elementary or secondary schools

Aspiring Teachers may seek initial teacher licensure in our Elementary or Secondary Education. In addition to baccalaureate degrees with standard licensure, we also offer graduate students alternative or standard licensure within the M.A. with Licensure Program.
